Disaster Response

In addition to being one of the most creative and highly acclaimed design architects in Hawaii, Stephen W. Long & Associates also has a professional expertise in Disaster Response Mitigation and Recovery.
His expertise is in determining the most accurate and comprehensive replacement cost with local general contractors. Stephen is currently serving his eleventh year as a Commissioner on the Kauai Historic Preservation Review Commission, which gives him additional insight in applying the US Department of the Interior’s Guidelines for Renovating and Restoring historical structures. Those services are included as part of his full architectural services from evaluating the damage, design, preparing Contract Documents, bidding, permitting, construction and final Certificate of Occupancy. We also have decades of experience in navigating the insurance public adjuster process as your advocate.
Stephen’s past experience includes providing these services for the Oakland Berkley Fire of 1991, Hurricane Iniki on Kauai in 1992, the Laguna Fire of 1993, the Malibu Woolsey Fire in 2018 and other clients on Oahu over the past 25 years. Following Hurricane Iniki, Stephen Long & Associates evaluated, assisted in settling, designed, permitted and rebuilt 83 homes and businesses on Kauai, as a member of the American Institute of Architects Pacific Rim Disaster Response Team. They were also responsible for rebuilding ALL of the public schools on Kauai for the Hawaii Department of General Services (DAGS).
Stephen’s philosophy is to help everyone affected by the Lahaina Fire, from Front Street commercial property owners to upcountry victims without insurance. We have established an office in Kihei, and look forward to working with you.
